How to Bath Your Puppy
How to bath your puppy is something a lot of people assume they already know how to do. How big your puppy is will determine if you want to use your bathtub, sink, or a small tub for bathing. Which ever you use make sure you place a mat, or towel in the bottom to give your puppy secure footing during the bath.
After you have run the water for the bath and checked the temperature, which should be 100-degree F. Place towels, wash cloth, puppy brush, cotton balls, small plastic cup, or container, and dog shampoo, with in reaching distance.
Begin with brushing your puppy to remove all tangles from him or her. If your puppy has short hair, you can skip this step. While speaking softly to your puppy place him or her in the tub followed by placing cotton balls in his ears, this will help keep water out of the ears.
Use one hand to hold on to your puppy while using the plastic cup to pour water onto your puppy. Do not pour water on your puppy’s head, you will wash puppy’s head last. Pouring water on the puppy’s head will cause him to try shake to get the water off.
Next add shampoo and begin working into his coat. Use the wash cloth and water only to wash his face. Once you have completed shampooing it is time to rinse out all of the shampoo. Make sure all of the shampoo is rinsed out, any shampoo left behind will cause skin irritation. When water runs clear, use the towel to dry your puppy. You may want to use a blow dryer set on low to dry your puppy. Try not to wash your puppy too often. If you wash your puppy too often you will dry out his skin and this can lead to constant scratching. I know sometimes this cannot be avoided when puppies are always into everything including mud and poop. How to bath your puppy is quite simple if you just remember to make sure all of the soap is rinsed out and that you do not give too many baths. I try to keep bathing to one bath a month.
